So, I pretty much disappeared for a while. I feel selfish about it really, but in the midst of all the things going on it actually HAD to happen as I was incapacitated for a whole month then didn’t feel up to writing again for another full month after that. Then, I returned to working full time plus mandatory overtime… It all burnt me out on everything pretty quickly, but I’m getting back to my normal.
For those actually wondering what happened in the first place, what has happened in the meantime, and what’s happening now… Here it is:
I was diagnosed with basosquamous skin cancer, and that cancer just happened to be on my scalp. There was also potential for it to be invading my calvarium (that’s the part of the skull that protects the brain). I had a few scans and checks then went under the knife. All of the cancer (as well as a few layers of skull) were removed in a rather short (3ish hour) surgery.
Then there was recovery, which I’m gonna go ahead and add was just a huge pain in the ass. The strongest med prescribed was Tramadol, and I had about 18 inches of incision and approximately 80 stitches in my scalp. Sleeping was rough, moving was rough… Life was rough.
Everything healed though, and then I brought up a mystery spot in my neck that showed on one of the scans…. That is still a mystery spot, as I couldn’t (and still can’t) afford the scans to check it specifically. I also can’t afford to take the time off of work for a biopsy just yet.
The Good News
I’m well though, I think. I feel well. I’ve actually been feeling great, but it’s still disconcerting to know there is a mystery mass in your neck.
There’s another tidbit that will appear right here tomorrow afternoon, hopefully… You’ll have to check back to find out though!
How have you been though, folks?
